How this was calculated
Every figure above is derived from these steps — nothing is a black box.
- 1We start from your monthly wage of RM 5,000.00.
- 2EPF (KWSP): RM 5,000.00 × your contribution rate = RM 550.00 deducted from you, plus RM 650.00 paid by your employer on top — this goes into your retirement savings, not to the government.
- 3SOCSO (PERKESO): based on your wage (capped at RM6,000), you pay RM 25.00 and your employer pays RM 87.50 for employment injury and invalidity protection.
- 4EIS (SIP): you pay RM 10.00 and your employer matches it with RM 10.00 — this funds unemployment benefits if you're ever retrenched.
- 5PCB (MTD): we annualise your income, subtract RM 13,350.00 in tax reliefs you qualify for, then apply the progressive tax table to the remaining RM 46,650.00 of chargeable income.
- 6That annual tax of RM 1,299.00 is spread evenly across 12 months, giving a monthly PCB of RM 108.25.
- 7Your take-home pay is your gross wage minus EPF (employee share), SOCSO (employee share), EIS (employee share) and PCB.

Payroll calculator for Malaysian employers
Running payroll? Besides your take-home pay, the calculator shows what the employer pays on top of gross salary — EPF (13% on wages up to RM5,000, 12% above), SOCSO and EIS — and the total monthly cost of each employee. Use it to budget hiring costs, then generate an itemised payslip with the payslip generator.
Malaysia salary calculation: common questions
How is net salary calculated in Malaysia?
Net salary (take-home pay, or gaji bersih) is your gross salary minus four statutory deductions: your 11% EPF share, your SOCSO and EIS contributions (both calculated on wages capped at RM6,000), and monthly tax deduction (PCB/MTD) if your income is high enough to be taxable. This calculator applies the current KWSP, PERKESO and LHDN rates automatically.
What is the difference between gross and net salary?
Gross salary is the amount in your employment contract before any deductions. Net salary is what actually reaches your bank account after EPF, SOCSO, EIS and PCB are deducted. Your employer also pays EPF, SOCSO and EIS on top of your gross salary, which is why the total cost to the employer is higher than your gross pay.
How much EPF do employers and employees pay?
For Malaysian employees under 60, the employee contributes 11% of monthly wages. The employer contributes 13% when wages are RM5,000 or less, and 12% when wages are above RM5,000.
Is this also a payroll calculator for employers?
Yes. Alongside the employee's take-home pay, the results show the employer's EPF, SOCSO and EIS contributions and the total monthly cost to the employer, so HR teams and small business owners can budget payroll. For a printable record, use the payslip generator.
Is PCB (monthly tax deduction) charged on every salary?
No. Below a certain income, your tax reliefs and the tax rebate bring your tax to zero, so no PCB is deducted. The examples table above shows where PCB starts for a single employee; being married, having children or claiming extra reliefs pushes that point higher.
Sourced from official rates
EPF figures come from KWSP's Third Schedule, SOCSO and EIS from PERKESO's contribution tables, and PCB from LHDN's tax brackets and relief schedule. We recheck these whenever a Budget or rate change is announced — last checked 2026-10-06, effective from 2025-10-01. See the full history on the rate changes page.
