Annual Leave Entitlement Calculator
Work out how many days of paid annual leave you're entitled to under the Employment Act 1955, including pro-rating for a partial first year.
Leave entitlement
Based on 1 completed year(s) of service, the statutory full-year entitlement is 8 days.
Statutory minimums (Employment Act 1955, s.60E)
- Less than 2 years of service: 8 days a year
- 2 to 5 years of service: 12 days a year
- More than 5 years of service: 16 days a year
These are minimums that only apply to employees covered by the Employment Act (currently those earning RM4,000/month or less, plus manual/machinery-operating workers regardless of wage). Many employers offer more generous leave in the employment contract — always check yours first.
Worked example
If you've completed 3 years of service, you fall in the '2 to 5 years' tier, entitling you to 12 days of annual leave for that year. If you joined 4 months ago and haven't completed your first year yet, your pro-rated entitlement so far would be roughly 4/12 × 8 days ≈ 2.7 days, typically rounded per your employer's policy.
Common questions
Does unused annual leave carry over to the next year?
The Employment Act doesn't require it — carry-over depends on your employment contract or company policy. Some employers allow a limited carry-over, others don't; check your own contract for the specific rule.
Are public holidays counted as annual leave?
No, they're separate. Public holidays are a distinct statutory entitlement under the Employment Act and shouldn't be deducted from your annual leave balance.
